Event Details:
International Overdose Awareness Day
International Overdose Awareness Day is August 31. Each year this event aims to raise awareness about overdose and that overdose is preventable. International Overdose Awareness Day remembers those who have died or sustained a permanent injury related to drug use.
International Overdose Awareness Day raises awareness of overdose, which is one of the world’s worst public health crises. It generates discussion and action, using evidence-based approaches and drug policy to help reduce overdoses. The day aims to:
- Provide an opportunity for people to publicly mourn in a safe space
- Inform communities about the issue of fatal and non-fatal overdoses
- Provide supportive messages to those with lived and living experience that they are valued
The local International Overdose Awareness Day Planning Committee is hosting an in-person event to remember those impacted by overdose.
